Are you animal mad?
If so, then Whipsnade Zoo is the place for you. In the heart of Bedfordshire, this zoo is the counterpart to the historic London Zoo. Both are run as charities by the Zoological Society of London.
Visiting Whipsnade isn’t your classic zoo experience, it’s much more. First of all, there’s the size. It’s the largest zoo in the country, covering around 600 acres of countryside, which means that animals have spacious, open-air enclosures to enjoy. In fact, it’s so big that you can drive your car, take the bus, or even ride the train around it! There are also animals that roam free across the site including peacocks and wallabies. There’s a children’s farm where little ones can get hands on with domestic animals and, finally, there’s a safari section where you can pass through the animals’ territory in your car.
And the work of the zoo goes beyond what you see in Whipsnade. The Zoological Society of London is heavily involved in conservation projects in the UK and around the world. Their mission is to protect animals and the habitats they rely on for future generations and your visit will help to support this noble project.
Areas in the zoo include the Butterfly House, Lions of the Serengheti, Rhinos of Nepal and Wild Wild Whipsnade. With so much to see and do, you’ll want to spend the whole day here - and you can! We have everything you need to enjoy a day full of magic and discovery, from restaurants, cafes and picnic areas to toilets, baby changing facilities and installations for wheelchair users.
Don’t miss out on feeding time and the regular keeper talks!
