Description of Exmoor Zoological Park

Welcome to Exmoor Zoo

Opened in 1982 in the North Devon Valley, we are a wonderful and unique zoo offering fun and educationals family days out. We are unique in that we are not a city zoo or a wildlife park, we try and offer you plenty of contact with the animals and a friendly and personal experience.

We are constantly updating our exhibitions and animals, so there is always something new to see! We have many talks and encounter sessions that you can attend to get up close to animals and find out more about them.

We have many exotic and rare animals and birds, who you will find in natural surroundings so they are comforable and relaxed and you can see them in as natural an environment as possible. We have created many new exhibits for larger animals to ensure they are comfortable, including animals such as cheetahs, blackbucks, maned wolves, sitatunga, and of course the "Exmoor beast" !"

How to get there?
Exmoor zoo is situated mid way between the North Devon Link Road the A361 and the North coast of Devon on the A399. The A399 is the holiday route taking traffic off the A361 at South Molton at the Aller Cross roundabout. Approaching from this route (via the M25 motorway, junction 27 and then the Link road the A361) Exmoor Zoo is exactly 10 miles along the A399 on the left hand side - follow the brown tourist signs. Approaching from the coast (Woolacombe, Ilfracombe, Combe Martin, Lynton etc.) Exmoor zoo is 2km further South than Blackmoor Gate (Blackmoor Gate is the crossroads where the A39 intersects the A399 and is a gateway into the Exmoor National Park) on the A399 on the right hand side - follow the brown tourist signs. The only public transport is the 310 bus service that departs the bus central depot at Barnstaple and involves a small walk of 1km from the A399 on a minor road to the zoo entrance.
