Welcome to Edinburgh Zoo

We are owned by The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), founded in 1909. The Zoo opened in July 1913.

We are conveniently located just 3 miles to the west of Edinburgh city centre and are set within 82 acres of picturesque parkland.

We are one of Europe's leading centres of education, research and conservation, and we are constantly working to help ensure the survival of many threatened animal species. We offer funding and our expertise to support various conservation projects in the wild.

We have over 1,000 rare and endangered animals for you to come and see and learn about, there are many different ways to enjoy your day out. We make a great family day out, and have many fun and educational activities for you to enjoy, as well as a range of facilities:
