When you hear the song of birds, the rustle of the leaves and the sound of water you know that adventure isn’t far away.

That’s why every journey to Above and Below North Yorkshire is full of anticipation. The fun begins when you arrive at our 32-acre site in the North Yorkshire district of Selby, just outside Womersley. The first thing you’ll notice is the open-water lake, known as the Blue Lagoon, ringed by grassy banks and trees. This is the scene of your adventure!

We put on a range of watersports activities for individuals, family and friendship groups, and larger groups like youth organisations or corporate teams. The lake is a perfect place to enjoy the increasingly popular sport of paddleboarding, but more unusual activities like raft building and sea scooters are also part of our repertoire.

Of course, these activities take place above the water’s surface. What about below it? Well, we’re scuba fanatics. Plumbing the depths, interacting with wildlife and the diving community make scuba a wonderful activity wherever you do it, but it’s particularly special at the Blue Lagoon. As a spring-fed lake, the water is clean, the visibility is good, and we even have some sunken installations to explore. All of this would be nothing without our team of expert instructors whose passion and personalities keep people coming back time and again. In addition, we have extensive on-site facilities, including changing rooms, parking and a cafe.

What is it about messing about in the water that puts a smile on everyone’s face?

We don’t have an answer to that, but we love watching it happen! That’s why we love our work at Above and Below North Yorkshire Rafting. We are based on the Blue Lagoon, a beautiful lake outside the village of Womersley in North Yorkshire. It’s the perfect place for activities, games and team-building events with an aquatic theme.

Rafting is one of our favourite activities. The only problem is that we don’t have any rafts! That’s where you come in. Our raft building and racing activities start with you and your group using the materials that we supply to construct water-worthy rafts. Once they’re ready, it’s time to put the rafts to the test in a series of challenges and races. The friendly competition between rival teams always brings out the best in people, making this a fantastic option for a corporate away day.

As you enjoy the thrills and challenges of rafting, you might spot people enjoying our other activities such as stand-up paddleboarding and diving. The lake is a haven for adventurers of all kinds and we have the facilities to make their visits as comfortable and convenient as possible. Parking, changing rooms, a cafe and more make this a wonderful place to spend time.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a newcomer to watersports because paddleboarding equipment is easy to use, and you’ll start your peaceful journey before you know it. Explore the shores of the lake, try to spot some local wildlife or play some games with your friends and family - you can do it all on a SUP.

We run paddleboarding sessions on the Blue Lagoon, each one led by a member of our fantastic team. All the equipment is provided so you just need to bring a swimsuit and a pair of trainers that you’re prepared to get wet.

Aside from paddleboarding, we host diving sessions and even raft building challenges. We’re fully set up for all kinds of activities above and below the water with changing facilities, parking, an on-site cafe and more.

If you’re not one to let chilly waters put you off, you’re our kind of person.

North Yorkshire has a beautiful stretch of coastline, but at Above and Below North Yorkshire Diving, we have a private inland scuba spot. It’s called the Blue Lagoon and if you set your GPS for the village of Womersley, you’ll find us.

The lagoon is an old quarry filled with fresh spring water, meaning that it has an impressive depth, high water quality and great visibility. It’s perfect for learning to dive and exploring at the limits of standard equipment. There are a couple of sunken vehicles and shipwrecks to make things more fun, and multiple entry points to discover.

As well as taster sessions, diving courses and technical training, the Blue Lagoon hosts a unique activity - Seascooters. These are handheld propulsion devices which, combined with a mask and snorkel, take you on a wild ride across the water’s surface.

If you’re whizzing around with a Seascooter, we’ll make sure the other water users stay out of your way. We put on stand-up paddleboarding and rafting experiences, and of course, there are the ducks to avoid too!
