Have you been looking for the perfect getaway close to home? Here we have the perfect guide for an action-packed staycation – and what better way to start than with water sports. The UK has an incredible variety of water sports available to everyone, throughout the entire country. Whether you’re looking for an adrenaline rush or relax in front of an idyllic scene, we have it all.
1. Discover places you’ve never seen before
You might think that choosing water sports means sun, sand and sea – and whilst that definitely sounds like a plan, there’s so much more the country has to offer. Instead of heading straight to your nearest beach, why not take a bout tour to some far-reaching islands or manoeuvre the coastline in ways you never thought possible. There are plenty of hidden gems in and around our beloved islands just waiting to be discovered at any time of the year.
2. It’s a healthy holiday
Bet you never thought burning calories and holidaymaking would ever go hand-in-hand. Well, this guide is here to tell you otherwise – and we don’t just mean swimming. Of course, there are the hard-core surfers catching serious waves, but what about a relaxing canoe trip down a river in autumn or kayaking around the coast in the summer. These not only build upper body strength but are a great low-impact alternative to running. Or even better, build your core strength whilst enjoying a relaxing lake tour with stand-up paddle boarding; the newest trend to hit the water sports world. The best part of all, is enjoying that cold lager once the day is done, knowing full-well that you’ve earned it.
3. Learn new skills
Have you ever caught yourself watching something like Baywatch, where the main character is in the midst of a high-speed jet ski chase, and you thought “I’d wanna have a go at that”? Well it’s time to make that dream a reality. Water sports around the UK also gives you a chance to expand your horizons and learn skills you didn’t think you’d ever get a chance to learn. Although you might not be chasing down bad guys on a jet ski, you’ll definitely be able to learn how to pilot one. And whilst you’re out there, why not take the wind in your stead and learn how to kitesurf, or even man a sailboat! There really are unlimited opportunities for growth.
4. Whatever the weather, you’re guaranteed leisure
There’s no need to put yourself under extreme stress trying to organise multiple people to meet at one date, with the perfect weather conditions on the perfect day (especially when you’re in the UK) – you don’t need to worry about the rain when you’re already going to get wet! There are water sports that suit any time of the year, for any weather, indoors or outdoors. Whenever you want to go, you can go! Organise a boat excursion in the summer to enjoy the wildlife and watch the sunset, learn how to surf in the winter when the waves are alive, take advantage of the autumn wind and go kitesurfing, or jet ski fearlessly in the springtime rain as you’re going to be wet either way.
5. Perfect for any occasion
Whether you’re looking to take your colleagues on a corporate adventure, teach the next generation new skills, or want a romantic getaway with your significant other, there’s an activity waiting to make it a time to remember. Imagine the chaos of going coasteering with your closest friends for your hen/stag do, or the romanticism of paddle boarding on the reflection of a sunrise from a lake. Water sports give you a chance to go against the grain – share a new experience with your nearest and dearest or build strong bonds with new acquaintances. If you think about it, trying water sports is fool proof.
When should I do it?
As we mentioned before, depending on the activity you wish to experience, the best time of year to carry it our varies. However, overall there’ll always be something you’ll be
able to do at any time of the year, even in winter!. This is why we love water sports so much. The possibilities are endless!
