Theme parks have been providing the general public with a hub of entertainment since 1583 – and still, today, they are some of the country’s favourite holiday destinations. People flock all over the UK to have experiences only they can offer; if you’re looking for things to do outdoors, ride rollercoasters, dive down a water slide or meet exotic animals, they have it all.
If you want to find a reason why they’re still so popular today - we’ve given you 5!
1. An action-packed family day out
Looking for fun for the whole family? Then look no further than theme parks in the UK. Whether you’re into amusement park attractions, relaxing by the pool or exploring outdoors – there’s a theme park for every occasion! Also, theme parks are incredibly inclusive establishments, and will have measures taken into account for every scenario; if you’re a relatively young family, with teenagers, or would need special assistance, everyone is welcome. When a family weekend to remember is as easy as booking a couple of tickets online, what’s not to love?
2. Visit the UK’s best attractions
When you think about theme parks, probably the first thing that comes to mind are the attractions. From the huge winds of the rollercoaster tracks, to the towering elevator rides, whenever you set foot in a theme park the first thing you are met with is the sound of people having the time of their lives. The rides roaring in the distance, the smell of cotton candy, you just know in your mind that today is going to be a great day. And that’s exactly what you’re going to get when you visit one.
3. Go for a splash during the summer
If you ask anyone what their plans would be for the summer, everyone would include visiting a water park at least once in their lists. It’s just a necessity. It’s the perfect blend of tranquillity and adrenaline-fuelled fun – take a moment to chill by the pool and soak up the sun or jump head first down the biggest slide there – they have everything sorted for any mood. Perfect for taking your family, group of friends, or even to go by yourself, whatever happens you are bound to have an incredible time.
4. Face your fears outdoors
Theme parks aren’t just limited to those for amusement, however, as you can also choose to undergo adventure courses in the outdoors – if overcoming new challenges is your form of amusement, they have you covered. These adventure centres are perfect for facing your fear of heights with high ropes courses, or completing activities as a team, they have all the equipment and resources you need to test your limits!
5. Enjoyable and educational
Not only can you go to theme parks for adrenaline-fuelled entertainment, splashing in the pool in the summer, or facing new challenges – but they are also places where you can learn (whilst simultaneously having fun). Theme parks in the UK can offer a vast multitude of experiences, from getting to know exotic animals in zoos, visiting the world of the butterflies or even having an unforgettable alpaca experience, they portray a necessary blend of fun and education. If you’re more of a chill seeker, visiting an enclosure to watch the beauty of nature in its serenity, being mesmerised by an incredible animal you’ve most likely never heard of is one of the blessings of nature – and they should be enjoyed by all.
When should I go?
Due to the nature of the UK’s climate, and the fact that almost every theme park is open air, we would say the best seasons to go are spring, summer and autumn. You’ll be able to enjoy the experience more if you’re out in the sun, without worrying about when the next rain shower will be, if the rides will be wet when you arrive, or if it’ll be too cold when you’re out of the water. Furthermore, loud thunderstorms and rain can really affect wild animals, even in enclosures, and so to not cause them any more stress it’s best to avoid zoos and conservatories during this weather.
