Where to go skydiving in Lancashire?

• Lancaster City. You may be familiar with this place and have heard of it because of its famous medieval castle, but you surely don't know that just 15 minutes drive away (18.5 miles), you'll find one of the best flying schools in the country in the Cockerham airfield. Skydiving here is a real deal, as you'll be lucky enough to see breathtaking views, such as Morecambe Bay, from above and fly over the Forest of Bowland at an altitude of more than 15,000ft.

On the other hand, this centre has something you will love. You'll have the option of choosing one of their charity flights, where a good part of the funds will go to that organisation you normally collaborate with, or a new one that you'll find on the list. There is undoubtedly nothing better than raising funds for a good cause, but doing so while having a great time is something that cannot be explained in words.

And if you are one of those who have come to accompany and encourage your more adventurous friend, you can wait in the rest area where you will find a cafeteria where you can have a snack in the meantime. What's more, when your friend lands, you'll be able to have a picnic to recover strength and tell you about the experience. • Flookburgh (Cumbria). We also have to tell you that if you drive 30 miles north, a 45-minute drive will take you to the town of Flookburgh (Grange over Sands), in the Cark arifield. Here you'll find another of the best skydiving schools. Trust us, it's a place you'll fall in love with. From the plane, once you're in freefall, you'll be lucky enough to see the magnificent Lake District, as well as the Whitbarrow Nature Reserve. Just imagine what it will be like to admire these natural wonders from an altitude of 15,000ft. It's an experience you'll remember forever.

As you would expect, there is also a rest area where you can recover your strength after the jump and where you can watch films and documentaries about the history of this sport.

Requirements to do this activity

This is one of the most extreme sports you can experience. We're sure we've all dreamt at some point of jumping into the void from a light aircraft, but you need to know that to be able to do it, it's important to have the mental strength to help you overcome those little fears. It's a safe and suitable activity for anyone ready to live an experience full of emotion. However, you must have a minimun age of 16 years old and bring a signed parental consent form if you aren't over 18.

Although there is no age limit, anyone over 70 years must bring a medical certificate to prove they do not suffer from any heart disease. Believe us, this is important, because the sensation of being at such a high altitude will make your heart go into overdrive, and for some people, it can be dangerous.

What kind of jumps can be done?

Your previous experience in this sport won't be a problem either, as anyone who wants to enjoy the thrill of jumping will be able to do it regardless of their level or technical skills. If this is your first time practising this activity, you can do it with an instructor in a tandem parachute jump in which you won't have to worry about anything but having the time of your life and enjoying the incredible views. And if you already have some experience and want to jump out of the plane by yourself, you can also do it thanks to the tuition the instructor by doing an AFF course of several days in which you will do several jumps, some in tandem, others with an external monitor that will accompany you during the fall so that you can finally do it alone.

What equipment is needed?

Like any other outdoor activity, it's important to dress as comfortably as possible, even though it's not a sport in which you will be in constant movement. Furthermore, as it is a risky sport in our centers you will provided with all the necessary equipment, you must wear a helmet and safety goggles to protect you from the force of the wind, as the speed you will reach will be almost 200 kilometres per hour. In addition, you will also need to wear a tight-fitting full-body suit that will allow you to fall more quickly.

Of course, we don't need to tell you that at the Flying School, you'll be flying in one of the best light aircraft adapted for high-altitude flying and that all the parachute equipment is approved and will make you feel safe at all times.
