Tips if you are going to do Paragliding in United Kingdom
Scott Iman Jones posted on 18 June 2021 11:27 | Reading time: 5 Minutes
What started as the military experimenting with parachute landing techniques has now become one of the most sought-after extreme sports in the world. Paragliding is often referred to as man’s easiest way to take to the skies – and it couldn’t be truer! Literally take off from your feet and experience the closest thing to soaring the skies like a bird. It’s an exciting, peaceful and life changing experience that most never get to discover – that’s why we’ve compiled our top 5 reasons why you should go paragliding in the UK.
1. Witness the world below from the skies
When you go paragliding you’ll never fly more comfortably again. Sitting in the harness, feeling true weightlessness and having a 360-degree view of the world around you – witnessing the beauty of the UK’s landscape is absolutely spectacular from up above. Lose yourself in nature and immerse yourself in escapism as you’re enveloped by the wind. Whilst you’re up there it’s your only company. Whether you glide across the coast, through mountains or across long plains, you are guaranteed to experience a truly life changing moment.

2. Learning is easier than it looks
As it’s just you, your harness, the wing and the wind, there’s not much that actually goes into paragliding – once you’re up in the sky the only thing you have to worry about is how good the views are! Whilst it can seem daunting at first, the only controls necessary are the grips either side of your harness which direct the wing in the motion you choose. Even though the wind is the most decisive force affecting your flight, you’ll still have a great deal of control yourself – and you can learn after just a handful of flights with an instructor.

3. Improve balance and build core strength
Without you even realising it, when you go paragliding you’ll be engaging your deep core muscles (transverse abdominis) to keep your balance in the skies. Over time this will not only increase your core strength but improve your posture and general balance as well! What’s more, you’ll increase your arm strength though steering the wing and ensuring that you’re always level. Whilst you’re flying, the adrenaline that your body releases will not only increase your energy, but make you extremely aware of everything surrounding you, increasing your concentration. So not only is paragliding an incredible sport, but it’s a complete body and mind workout all in one!

4. Boost your self confidence
Conquer your fears and take to the skies. That’s the main allure of paragliding to extreme sports enthusiasts. At first it can seem scary – you’re gliding at high altitudes with nothing beneath your feet and just a harness hanging free, we understand it can cause some first-flight jitters. However, what we can guarantee even more, is that once you’re up in the air, having the time of your life, you’ll lose all sense of fear and grow massively in confidence. There’s nothing more thrilling than overcoming your fears!

5. It’s safer than you think
Aside from the fear of heights, another doubt people usually have is thinking that paragliding is not particularly safe. At first glance, it’s understandable, and definitely seems like a recreational sport specifically for the lion-hearted! However, paragliding is actually one of the safest aerial sports available right now. Of course, as with any extreme sport, there are some risks that come with it, but as it’s so easy to learn it’s also easy to make sure none of the risks apply to you! If you’re still worried, then the best way to have a safe and exhilarating paragliding experience is to train with an instructor and choosing the most suitable location.

When should I go paragliding in the UK?
Paragliding is accessible all throughout the year – as long as the wind conditions are stable and it’s not raining. During the warmer, calmer seasons like spring and summer, you can go at any point throughout the day and have a great, safe experience every time. However, if you’re looking to go during autumn/winter, then we would suggest between 10:30 and 17:00, as this is when the weather conditions are most stable.
