Explore the brilliant city of Birmingham and see its sights in a new light with Roundhouse Birmingham.
We are an independent charity run by a team of passionate volunteers dedicated to displaying our wonderful city's true beauty and history to its many visitors, which we do through a range of guided tours by walking, kayaking, paddle boarding and more.
Our charity was created through a partnership with Canal & River Trust and the National Trust, which led to renovating the Grade II* listed heritage site, the Roundhouse. The building was built in 1874 and used mainly as stables and stores for the Birmingham Corporation's Public Works Department. It is now a symbol of the city's civic and industrial heritage, but it also shows its progression as it has changed a lot and is still standing.
As custodians of this historic landmark, all the experiences we offer are crafted with the aim to build a closer connection between modern Birmingham, its people and visitors to the city's history through this beautiful building.
We strongly believe in the importance of this building and the city's overall history, so when we help give you an exciting tour and a fresh new perspective of the city, you are also helping us to give a future to the Roundhouse and the work we want to do here.
At the Roundhouse, there is a visitor centre perfect for a proper tour experience, and you can even purchase something eye-catching from our gift shop. If you fancy some food or refreshments, you can check out the lovely cafe here, Jonathans in the Roundhouse.

Take a Boat Trip with Roundhouse Birmingham to explore the city's historic canals!
With a team of passionate volunteers, we run tours on land and on water through Birmingham's vast canal system through a range of methods, and one of these is a peaceful journey in a heritage working boat.
All the tour experiences we offer, including the boat trips run from The Roundhouse, a Grade II* listed building which is a beacon of Birmingham's rich history which we helped renovate and restore in 2013 to keep its heritage alive and bring the people closer to the history of the city.
From The Roundhouse, we lead visitors through the various canal loops and past plenty of local landmarks from the comfort of a 1930s heritage working boat, hearing historical insights from an experienced guide as you travel.
As an independent charity, we have formed partnerships to help with our work, and the narrow boats used for these trips are maintained by the Canal & River Trust's Heritage Working Boat Group.
It is not only the hidden sights and landmarks which provide a look into the past but also the beautiful boats are like stepping into a time capsule so you will have the unique opportunity to see how the workers of the past worked in the boats and on the canal.
Come for a family fun adventure with Roundhouse Birmingham. Don't hesitate to contact us to find out more!
