Welcome to Essential Adventure in Devon. We are an outdoor activity centre operating throughout Devon and the South West.

We cater for residential and non-residential visitors and provide adventure courses for schools, colleges, universities, youth organisations, corporate events, hen & stag parties as well as families and friends.

We aim to design an activity package that suits you, bearing in mind your age and ability. Our professional instructors are adept at teaching people of all fitness levels and will tailor your activity accordingly.

We have become one of the most successful outdoor adventure activity centres in Devon due to our commitment and passion for the activities that we provide.

Welcome to Essential Adventure Canoeing in Devon.

Canoeing is one of the best ways to see some of the most remote and inaccessible areas of the Devonshire countryside. We invite you to join us on one of our public courses for large groups or you are welcome to book your own instructor and fleet of canoes for the day.

River Dart Canoeing & Camping:

Our most popular course. It consists of canoeing instruction whilst paddling down the River Dart, we will then set-up camp and spend an evening cooking over an open fire. It is ideal for small and large groups as well as youth organisations.

Exeter Canal Canoeing Day:

Paddle gently along the famous Exeter canal with our Canadian canoes. We will travel into the heart of the city in order to stop for lunch on the quay. There are 2 routes back; the leisurely route via the Double Locks or, for the more adventurous, challenge yourself to the weirs descents!

River Wye Mini Canoeing Expedition:

Learn how to canoe on the beautiful River Wye in South Wales. Combine nature spotting with canoeing; it is the perfect combination and you will leave refreshed.

Devon has some of the finest white water creeks and rivers in the UK and we enjoy climbing our way upstream against the natural flow of water. Experience the thrill of gorge walking with us!

You can expect to scramble upstream, squeeze through tight spots, abseil down waterfalls and leap into plunge pools. The challenges are endless.

Welcome to Essential Adventure Caving in Devon. There are many superb caving systems to explore in Devon that were formed many millions of years ago!

We go caving at Pridhamsleigh Cavern that is easily accessible as there is no complicated entry. It offers fantastic muddy fun for everyone!

You will be guided by a professional caving instructor and we will kit you out in waterproof overalls complete with wellies and a safety helmet with an LED head lamp before heading into the cave.

You will tour the larger passages and chambers of the cave and we will inform you about its history and characteristics. You will finish at the lowest point of the cave at the lake, which explains the water filled passages that you will encounter along the way.

There are tricky climbs and plenty of tight squeezes too! Challenge yourself with Essential Adventure Caving and address your fears!
