For 30 years now, Alston Training and Adventure Centre have been offereing a host of great adventures from our fantastic location set in remote moorland near Alston in Cumbria.

With a number of mines right on our doorstep Alston Training and Adventure Centre Caving is a great place to try this fantastic experience.

With its historic lead mining industry, Alston Moor is home to mines from the time of the romans providing some great locations to delve beneath the ground searching for adventure. The most popular being Tyne Bottom in Garrigill  with its extensive system of safe tunnels, old rail tracks and timber supports and Smallcleugh Mine with its dry stone arches from 1770.

Both are great places to challenge yourself led by a fully capable and professional guide who knows these caving systems like the back of their hands.

Take to a great range of abseiling venues, from our purpose build introductory wall to the real crags of the Lakes District with Alston Training and Adventure Centre Abseiling.

From our 5 metre introductory wall located on our site, to the small crags just a short walk from the centre to Ashgill Force with its 17 metre drop down a waterfall into a gorge. You will be led and instructed by our fully qualified instructors who will instruct you in the correct technique and ropework so that you can step out over the edge of a cliff or ledge, lowering yourself back down to terra firma in this adrenaline filled experience.
