Glen Jakes Riding School is a family owned business located in Offerton in the suburbs of Manchester. Here we all have a true passion for horses and we want to invite you to share the experience with us!
We have the best of the best to insure you end up loving our horses and our stables just as much as we do, so much so you won't be wanting to leave! Our reputation is built on years of successful teaching and we offer a wide range of riding activities that cater to everyone. From complete beginners to those with a previous background and we work with aspiring riders of all ages.
Each horse has their own unique personality just like you and me and here we can help you with simple things like how to understand what your horse is trying to tell you. We will teach you rein control tricks and how to properly mount and dismount your horse in a way that is safe for you both. We show you how to comfortably sit on the horse so it doesn't damage it's back and so you don't get sore legs. We really care in the well being of you are our horses so you can always be assured your horse will be in good health when you take it out.
If you already have the basics and want to train for a dressage or competition you can make use of our jumps and our trainers expertise to give you some pointers.
If you would prefer to train alone we offer private classes (weekdays and weekends) and group classes (also weekdays and weekends) so can join us in the stables no matter what your timetable looks like.
We also offer special classes for those with learning difficulties where our instructors will take a different approach and are able to provide more support for the students should they need it. Here at Glen Jakes Riding School we understand everyone learns differently and we want to celebrate that.
We even offer birthday parties and stable maintenance lessons in case you are looking to purchase your own horse and want to be able to properly groom and take care of it.

Directions to: Glen Jakes Riding School Bean Leach Road Offerton Stockport, SK2 5JE Glen Jakes Riding School is easy to find from all areas, just 10 minutes away from the M60 (Stockport East), 15 minutes by bus from Stockport Town Centre or 20 Minute walk from Hazel Grove Train Station. Arriving By Car Coming from the main A626 Stockport to Marple Road, turn at The Spice Tower restaurant (Previously the Wrights Arms Pub) onto Bean Leach Road. Bean Leach Road is situated opposite Offerton Sand and Gravel and a BP Petrol Station. We are roughly 350 yards on the right hand side (if you reach the width restriction you have gone too far). Keeping looking out for the orange brick wall with an “A-Frame” sign saying “Glen Jakes Nursery and Riding School”, the entrance has the appearance of a private driveway. (Advice new clients to preview our website, as the Glen Jakes Riding School entrance image can be seen the top of every page). Continue down the drive past the house and the riding school is at the bottom of the hill through the gate. Coming from A6 London Road, Hazel Grove, once you get to the centre of Hazel Grove, you will get to the ASDA Superstore, at the traffic lights, if you are coming from: Stockport / Cheadle / Bramhall: turn Left at the lights Macclesfield / Poynton / Buxton: turn Right at the lights You should now be on Commercial Road, carry on down to the bollards on your left and turn left opposite Hazel Grove DIY Store onto Bean Leach Road, go on through the narrow bends, over the hump back bridge and we are the 3rd drive on your left after the width restrictions. We are roughly 75 yards on the left. Continue down the drive past the house and the riding school is at the bottom of the hill through the gate. Arriving by Bus Stockport – Offerton – Marple Bus Number: 383 / 358 Stop on Marple Road at the BP Petrol Station Manchester – Stockport – Hazel Grove Bus Number: 192 (A6, heading towards Hazel Grove) Get off in Hazel Grove at: Winsor’s World of Shoes Shop on the left and ASDA Superstore on the right. It is then a 15 minute walk from Commercial Road (Please follow instructions from A6 as noted above). Arriving by Train You need to get a train to Hazel Grove Train Station where it is then a 20 minute walk to Glen Jakes Riding School. You need to: - Turn Right when you leave the station - Turning left when reaching the road - Follow the road down bearing left as the road forks, when you reach the A6 turn left - Cross over the A6 outside Weatherspoons and turn down the road with the RBS Bank on the corner (Chapel Street) - Follow the road to the end (it curves round to the left, carry on following it) - Make a right onto Commercial Road and follow it down to Hazel Grove DIY where you need to turn down Bean Leach Road and follow it through the width restriction until you reach the riding school.
