There has always existed a connection between Scotland and horse riding. It's known worldwide that Queen Elizabeth loves horse riding in Balmoral, but the connection is even deeper.
For thousands of years, these animals have been helping us on our farms or even at wars. We, the Scottish people, have developed a true passion for horses and we value their loyalty and their love.
Thus, it was how Barbarafiel Riding School was born 65 years ago. Founded by Christine Berwick, from the Berwick family, in Barbarafield (North East Fife, near Cupar, Scotland), we have transformed horse riding from activity to art. Horses have been known for helping people in so many different ways and not only in labouring: they calm us down, they improve our social abilities to establish connections with others and they make us feel free.
Those key issues are exactly what we want you to experience while we trot around our land of more than 300 acres of fantastic forest and farmland (we actually do farming and have lambs and calves too!) and pretty close (15 minutes away!) from St. Andrew, another historical Scottish town known for having the oldest college of our country and for their passion for golf.
And what do we offer at Barbarafiel Riding School apart from taking you into nature like no other school? Our land allows us to split groups depending on their experience: beginners can go in easy and calming riding routes while riders with more experience can practise horse riding at its fullest version (running, jumping...). This way we want everyone to enjoy the power that these animals give us and our goal is, in the end, your safety, your comfort and your joy.
At Barbarafield Riding School, we understand that this activity has no perfect time to practise it and that's why we are open every day of the week during summertime and 6 days open during the rest of the year (Mondays closed!). Like this, you can feel free to contact us to arrange the perfect moment for you.
In addition, we don't only put at your disposal our installations, the best horses in the area (we have ponies for kids too!) and all the clothing that you'll need (yes, we're talking about those fancy and cosy boots and hats). The only piece of clothing that we ask you to bring is gloves, to protect your hands while grabbing the leads and because of the current situation of COVID-19.
We also recommend beginners (everyone actually!) to pay attention to the weather forecast, so you can dress accordingly and, for safety reasons, we won't be horse riding in a few cases like storms (this is not Gone With the Wind, though we all love how Scarlett O'Hara rode her horse under lighting and rain in different parts of the novel) or snowy weather that may cause ice on the grounds.
What are you waiting for being part of our traditions and our history? You'll see for yourself how exhilarating and powerful horseriding feels. Book now with us!
