What does Go-Ape consist of in Carmarthenshire?

• Tyre Wall: Although they’re designed to give your car traction on the roads, tyres make surprisingly good climbing routes. You can use them like a ladder, but can you keep climbing while the movements of your friends make the tyres wobble beneath your hands and feet? And what if it was raining the night before and every step up brings down a torrent of water from puddles in the tyres?

• Cargo Net: Like the Tyre Wall, a crosshatch net of ropes offers you many places to hold on, but if you don’t control your weight you’ll find it difficult to regain your balance.

• Tight Line: A single wire suspended above the ground is your walkway between two platforms in this part of the course. There’s also a wire above to hold onto, but it’s here that you can see how your life might have been if you’d run away to join the circus - see if you can manage the Tight Line with no hands!

• Jacob’s Ladder: a ladder should be a convenient way to ascend and descend, but that wouldn’t be much of a challenge. So this ladder is made up of large horizontal beams suspended one above the other, with large gaps between! What’s more, the beams aren’t connected to one another, so this is a wobbly way up to the top.

• Zipline: If you manage to clear the other obstacles, the 100 m. Zipline is a reward for your hard work. Let yourself zoom back to terra firm down the zip wire. It’s an exhilarating end to an empowering experience.

How long does it take to complete a zipline course?

How long is a piece of rope? That is to say, it depends on how long you want it to be. If you’re on holiday in Carmarthenshire, or are a resident, there’s an activity for you no matter what your schedule is like.

- The shortest option, the high ropes challenge, is just one hour long. That’s enough time to get a feel for the course. If you’re a beginner you’ll have a chance to experience using ropes and safety equipment for the first time and test your head for heights, whereas those with more experience might be able to have a go at certain obstacles more than once.

- For a longer tree-top trial, we recommend a high ropes adventure. This is two hours on the course, perfect for letting out your inner monkey on the climbs, swings and traverses. Every session will start with a safety and equipment briefing which will set you up to take advantage of all the time that you have on the ropes.

- Take it to the limit with a half day high ropes adventure. More time means more activities, that could mean taking multiple attempts at some obstacles or bonus activities like crate stacking. There’s going to be a lot of variety across a half day high ropes session, perfect for keeping all the family entertained, or for getting a whole group working together.

Requirements to do this activity

Children love climbing trees and they take naturally to high ropes courses, with the additional bonus of safety - let them indulge their desire to get up above the ground, whilst knowing that they can’t fall back down due to the safety equipment and supervision by guides. The minimum age to tackle the course in Carmarthenshire is 8 years old, as younger children would find some of the obstacles too big.

What do you need to bring the day of the experience?

You don’t need to worry about bringing your own equipment to Carmarthenshire in order to have the thrills of the ropes course, the centre has the necessary harnesses, helmets and rope kit. What you need to do is make sure that you’re ready for adventure - comfortable, sporty clothes that allow you to move freely are a must, as you’ll be stretching your body from one rope to the next, or jumping between platforms. As well as appropriate clothes, good footwear is also a must. Closed toe shoes with a good sole to give you grip are required.

Your high ropes experience will go ahead even in light rain so it’s important to check the weather forecast in advance, and wear waterproof layers, or pack a change of clothes, if necessary.
