Welland Gliding Club

Located in Brigstock, the same town about which King Charles I of England said it was "the best view of His Kingdom" and nestled between Oundle and Corby, Welland Gliding Club is surrounded by a nice and characteristic English countryside and great forests and parks like Fermyn Woods. Did you know that our town was once one of the main and most important ports on the continent? You can tell how special we are by knowing these facts! In addition, our installations are at the west zone of the village and we count with a large space perfectly designed for gliding  (a 1200-metres runway), the activity which will make you feel like a bird flying over England or one of the characters of The English Patient.

The Welland Gliding Club was born over 60 years ago and was founded by a group of gliding lovers, like Roy Taylor, who has previous experience in the first small clubs that existed in the area with a very primitive way of teaching the art of flying. Thus, they decided to design more complete programs so anyone, whatever if they have never flown before, could have fun with this adventure where they will feel the exhilarating emotions of being over the sky and will enjoy the breathtaking view that they will behold from above.

We have specialized on a fly that we call High Flyer because of the height that we reach (around 3000 feet during a 20-minutes fly). It's an adventure to which you can enrol on holidays, weekends or days with previous contact and arrangement.

Our location also permits trying thermal soaring, which is a modality that allows the pilot stays in the air imitating birds thanks to wind currents. So, as you see, our school is perfect for beginners, people who want to try more intense experiences and for professional pilots from all over the country or the world.

And how can you get to Welland Gliding Club? By car, you have to take Harley Way (A6116) and you will arrive without a problem at our gates. If you want to come by plane, you can too! Our airport is Lyveden airfield.
