Dumfries and District Gliding Club

Welcome to Dumfries and District Gliding Club!

We are a community of gliding enthusiasts who work together to run a club, flight training and introductory experiences to the fantastic world of unpowered flight. We are based at Fangunzeon Airfield on Plascow Rig, a ridge that rises to heights of over a thousand feet just north of the Solway Firth and south of the village of Kirkgunzeon.

This position grants us many opportunities for flying. Winds from southwest to northwest, which are by far the most common, are favourable, and there are good thermal updrafts which are essential for flying. In general, we operate winch launches and can fly on most weekends throughout the year - and more frequently in the summer.

We are a very welcoming club and if you would like to try gliding for the first time, we invite you to join us for a 15 minute trial lesson with one of our trained and experienced instructors. If once you have completed your flight you would like to continue gliding you can book more flights with the club. Adults and youngsters alike, with no flying experiences, can take up this sport.
