Description of Entry to National SEA LIFE Centre, Brindleyplace
The industrial heritage of Birmingham combines with the glories of the natural world in the National SEA LIFE Centre, built on the site of a Victorian canal junction with a futuristic steel-and-glass design and engineering wonders inside that allow you to view marine life like never before.
One of the highlights is the observation tunnel made entirely of transparent material. Sharks and shoals of fish drift past, over and above you as you traverse the centre of one of dozens of tanks which, in total, have a volume of over 1,000,000 litres.
But of course, the animals are the real stars. We’ve got ocean giants such as green turtles and a pacific octopus, fascinating guitarfish and menacing sharks, sea otters, penguins, eels, clownfish and much more. In fact, over 2,000 animals live in our waters.
When you visit the aquarium, you move through a series of zones representing different habitats on the planet. There are ocean sections, coral reefs and even a mangrove swamp to explore.
You’ll also come across events such as feeding and educational talks. Delivered by expert team members, these sessions are scheduled, so you can plan your visit around seeing your favourite animals in action.
The venue is accessible for people in wheelchairs and the huge observation windows mean that everyone from toddlers to great grandparents will make the most of their visit. For information about quiet time slots, designed for neurodivergent guests, or for anything else, just get in touch!
