Description of Sea Kayaking(18+) at Dalkey Island 3h+Snack
Do you need to scratch a kayaking itch? Or do you want to start a journey with a new sport and experience some breathtaking sights. We can take you on a trip from Killiney beach across the Dalkey sound, the water between the beach and our destination, Dalkey Island.
Although we fully welcome and encourage beginners, you must be at least 18 years old and be able to swim to partake in this 3-hour adventure between lands and across Irish Waters. From the coastline views to the Island wildlife, you will be fortunate to witness a wide range of views and sights.
The island has hosted a famous herd of goats for over 100 years and the rabbits, seabirds colony of seals that live there. These sights will create incredible photo opportunities, and you can download the photos following the activity.
Some significant landmarks reside on the island to add to the splendour of the whole island. For many, it is used as a pilgrimage site to visit Saint Begnet's Church, which has a deep history that began in the 11th century and contains historical Christian and pagan elements that make it a unique place for daily worship.
The Vikings even used the island to store enslaved people and even has remaining cannons and a Martello tower which were essential in attempting to prevent invasions. There is so much to see on such a small island, Sorrento Terrace, one of the most expensive houses in the Dublin area, is a real attraction.
Our instructors will provide a safety briefing, instructions and a guide along with all the vital equipment like a wetsuit and kayak. Still, we highly recommend that you bring a swimming costume to wear under the wetsuit, sportswear, a pair of trainers, a change of clothes, a towel and water to stay hydrated.
To find our starting location without driving, take the Dart from City Centre to Killiney Dart Station. You will find us at the car park beside the station.
