2-day intro to Winter Mountaineering at Torridon

Do you want to start such an interesting, skilful sport as winter mountaineering?

Winter mountaineering is the mountaineering practised during Winter. It can be riskier due to the complexity of the terrain and the weather during those months.

It is essential to learn the necessary skills and specific techniques to practice this sport safely. In this 2-day course, we will first learn and practice apt foot movements, a fundamental skill when winter mountaineering!

We will also look into how to properly use crampons and an ice axe, such vital tools when going to the mountains in Winter! Navigation and avalanche awareness are two significant aspects that we will need to cover as well.

We will go through how to efficiently use harnesses and gear as well as some rope work. The instructor will also show you some basic abseiling and descending techniques.

The best part of these sessions is that you will also be able to use all you learn in the perfect setting, always with the instructor’s help and support!

To maximize the time of the sessions, we allow a maximum of 4 people per group. Our courses occur in the Torridon Mountains.
