Description of Full Day Mountain Hike (18yrs+) on the Cnicht
Unleash your wild side and explore one of Snowdonia's most beautiful mountains on a full-day guided hike on the Cnicht.
Coming from the English word for 'knight', some say this is because it is the first mountain guarding the entrance to the Western hills of the Moelwynion mountain range, or it could be because of its helmet-like shape. Its unique shape has also earned this stunning mountain the nickname 'The Welsh Matterhorn' while standing at 689m, it is much smaller than its namesake.
This is a fantastic hike regardless of your experience; it has something for everyone, with lots of relaxing hiking perfect for enjoying the spectacular views, including an easy walk to the summit but with some steep sections along the way to challenge your determination.
While experience isn't required, you will need a decent fitness level to take on this full-day hike which could last up to five and a half hours, but you won't be alone on this journey. One of our fully qualified mountain leaders can do all the specialised route planning, navigation and guiding. Their vast experience and top-class local expertise are unmatched, so you will be in good hands, and they will brief you beforehand to prepare the group for the adventure ahead.
We make this hike up the Cnicht almost all year round and tackle all types of conditions and diverse terrain, so we have some kit advice to ensure you are as prepared as possible. Please wear a pair of sturdy mountain boots, weather-based clothing including hiking trousers, fleece, base layer, and waterproof shell layer, waterproof over trousers and even boot gaiters in winter.
It is always wise to bring a small rucksack to carry provisions like food, water, a warm hat, gloves and other items. We can provide more detailed advice upon booking.
Please note that all participants for this guided hike must be at least 18, but we can make exceptions for those aged 14 and over if they are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Our meeting point will be in the village of Croesor.
Challenge yourself on this gentle hike and reach new spectacular heights with us!
