Description of Self Guided Tour of Stonehenge for 2.5h
In an age obsessed with modern technology, be prepared for the past to take your breath away.
Stonehenge is one of the greatest achievements of the ancients, not just in the UK, but on a global scale. This stone circle - and associated earthworks and burial sites - in the open landscape of Wiltshire is a testament to the extraordinary knowledge and capabilities of our ancestors that leaves today’s experts scratching their heads.
How did supposedly primitive people transport huge stone blocks from as far away as Wales to the Salisbury Plain? How did they place them on top of towering standing stones? And - the most enigmatic question of all - why? We don’t know the answers for sure, but you’ll get as close as possible to finding them out for yourself by coming to this site for a 2.5-hour visit.
You’ll access our modern visitor centre, which takes you back 5,000 years to the time of the builders, through models, interpretation and multimedia exhibits. Then, you’ll follow a paved route that takes you around the monument and is accompanied by an audio guide, delivered in 14 languages by a headset.
The visitor centre has facilities such as toilets and a take-away refreshments service. The site, including the route to the stones, is fully accessible for wheelchair users.
Reading about it is fascinating, seeing it for yourself might just change the way you see the world. Book today!
