Description of Half Day Gorge Walking at Stickle Ghyll
If you’re the kind of person who likes to go against the flow, have we got the activity for you…
You might know it as gorge walking, though here in the lake district we’re more likely to call it ghyll scrambling. A ghyll and gorge are basically the same thing, and you'll have to walk, scramble, jump and swim to get to the end of our route.
One of our favourite locations for this activity is Stickle Ghyll in the area of Ambleside, which is where we’re based. However, based on the weather conditions, season and your preferences, we can also go for gorges such as Church Beck and Tilberthwaite Ghyll - which is particularly good for youngsters.
Mountain streams in deep-cut gorges are pretty hostile places, so we’ll supply you with thick wetsuits, buoyancy aids and helmets. You’ll need to wear your swimsuit and a pair of sturdy shoes to wear during the activity. Don’t forget a dry pair, as well as a towel!
We’ll also send one of our hardy outdoor activity leaders with you to keep you safe and guide you upstream on this half-day excursion.
Take the plunge!
