Half Day Trial Flight from Rochester to Goodwood

How do you fancy a trial flight that consists of taking off, flying cross country, landing at a distant airstrip, then flying back? This flight leaves from Rochester Airport and touches down at Goodwood Aerodrome, right in the middle of Chichester’s famous motor circuit. Then you get to fly back too!

You don’t have to be an aviator to enjoy this experience. It’s a trial flight, which means that a qualified pilot-instructor will carry out the flight but let you take control of the plane for a portion of the journey.

The programme includes the welcome, briefing and pre-flight checks in Rochester and the two flights with a brief turnaround in between. The distance is around 100 kilometres each way, so the whole experience takes up about half a day.

We’ll use a Cessna 172. This is a four-seat aircraft, so there can be 1 or 2 participants in the activity and both can have a go at the controls, one on each leg of the journey. Teens from 14 years old can join so long as they are accompanied by an adult, and both participants must weigh less than 17 stone (105 kg) and not exceed 6 foot (198cm) in height.
